During the dark autumn nights of 1888 the streets of London’s East End were terrorised by a string of horrific murders committed by a fiend who will forever be remembered as
. . . .
Jack the Ripper.
Between August 31st and November 9th Jack the Ripper brutally murdered 5 women on the streets of Whitechapel. Despite the best efforts of the Metropolitan Police and Inspector Frederick Abberline the killer was never found.
The Canonical Five
The "Canonical Five" are considered to be the definative toll of Jack the Ripper's unfortunate victims (although in recent years some researchers have contested this).
In chronological order they are :
Mary Anne Nichols Buck's Row - 31st August 1888
Annie Chapman
29 Hanbury Street - 8th September 1888
Elizabeth Stride Dutfield's Yard - 30th September 1888
Catherine Eddowes Mitre Square - 30th September 1888
Mary Jane Kelly 13 Miller's Court - 9th November 1888
After the last horrific murder of Mary Jane Kelly in November 1888 the attacks stop
and Jack the Ripper disappears.
